Kukup
The idyllic fishing village of Kukup, a series in search of a deeper understanding of the vernacular architecture that defines this community, a fresh departure from familiar urban landscape. Humble dwellings that lined the waterfront intimately entwined with the daily rhythms of the fishermen who called it home, reflecting their values, traditions, and cultural identities.
My journey to Kukup during my 5th Semester was a transformative experience, one that challenged my preconceptions and expanded my horizons. There was a moment of revelation where the stark quiet shore led me to understand the essence of having less and how it could enrich our lives with more.
The simplicity of the village, with its humble dwellings and serene surroundings, taught me that true abundance does not come from material possessions, but from the appreciation of the intangible aspects of life. The crisp, salty air that kissed my face, the melodious chirping of the birds and the soothing sound of the waves crashing against the shore - all these elements enriched my experience and left me with a sense of contentment that no amount of worldly possessions could ever match.
This realization is what lies at the heart of my philosophy as an architect. I believe that the built environment should not be solely focused on the materiality of structures, but also on creating spaces that enrich our lives, that elevate our experiences and connect us to the natural world. The simplicity of the fishing village reminded me of this truth and reinforced my commitment to designing spaces that inspire and enrich the human experience.
